Chris Perceval, photographer

Approach

Chris approaches his portrait photography with vision and style, always looking to capture something of the character of his subjects, to get beneath the skin. He works to build a rapport with the people he photographs, taking whatever time is needed to get beyond mere physical appearance, to capture something of their essence.

He does not use a studio, preferring to work on location in an environment that the subjects are familiar with. His aim is to produce relaxed, informal, unposed images that capture the mood and character of the subject.

Chris is one of a diminishing number of photographers who work exclusively with film, personally hand processing his own black and white film in a number of specialist developers. Film has such a wonderful depth and character. It has something about it that digital so lacks. Chris hand prints his own work on the finest black and white fibre papers.
