FAQsWhen?People often ask when is the best time to photograph their children: 3 months? 6 months? Birthdays? Special occasions? Chris' answer is always the same: Right now, today! To which the response is often "But he's just lost a tooth." "She's going through a difficult phase right now" or " He just had a go at cutting his own hair!" Precisely. There is perfection in imperfection. That is them, as they are, now. Where will the session take place?Chris prefers to work on location, either at the child's home or a convenient location with which the child is familiar. The aim being to create the most relaxed environment possible for the child. Where can I see the images? The images will be displayed in a dedicated web gallery when ready. It normally takes a week or so for the film to be processed, scanned and put up online. Do you use backgrounds, lots of lights etc.?No. The aim is to create intimate environmental portraits using, if at all possible, natural lighting. How long will the session take?Chris schedules 2 to 21/2 hours for a session. Realising that children's attention spans are limited, he is always ready to seize the moment knowing that the novelty will wear off soon and other activities look more attractive! What should the child wear?Something that the child feels comfortable in. Very bright or heavily patterned clothes are best avoided as they distract attention from the subject. Darker clothes tend to help concentrate attention on the face. Do you shoot digitally? No. Digital quality is nowhere near good enough for Chris. Film also has a very different look. It has depth and character, it looks real unlike the flat, bland, anodyne look of digitally captured images. |
